Assemblyman : Tom Alfano
21st Assembly District Elmont and North Valley Stream Help the Quisqueya Children in Haiti! April 18, 2009

A packed house at Verdi's Restaurant was the scene for a fundraising event for "Yes! We Can Help Quisqueya Children" charity this past Saturday. The charity is an Elmont-based group of residents headed by Clara H. Carlson School parent Patricia Lespinasse, her husband Wilfred, Paula and Georges Edme and Lucia Anglade. The dinner raised critical funding to build a new roof and install bathrooms at a Haiti School.

Assemblyman Alfano was the keynote speaker and thanked those in attendance for donating to the cause by making sure children in a school have a safe environment to learn. "When we help children realize their potential we are helping ourselves. You are literally giving the tools to people to make a school work. This charity and all the people here tonight from Elmont and North Valley Stream are making that difference and I thank you," Alfano said. Assemblyman Alfano is going to be continuing the fundraising effort by reaching out to Haitian singing star Wyclef Jean.
